In 2002, Chevrolet partnered with Richard Childress Racing and Dale Earnhardt to produce a very limited number of Dale Earnhardt Signature Edition Monte Carlo SS's. They produced 3,333 of these cars for a limited time. The Dale Earnhardt Edition is powered by GM's 3.8-liter 200hp V6 engine and is backed by a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Standard options are dual-zone air conditioning, AM/FM radio with CD and cassette player along with radio data system, power steering, brakes, windows, locks and sliding sunroof. Sport suspension and 4-wheel anti-lock brakes with race-inspired front cooling ducts, 16" aluminum alloy wheels, performance radial tires, electronic traction control, 6-way power front sport leather bucket seats, tilt wheel, driver and passenger air bags, anti-theft system, remote keyless entry, dual-power outside heated mirrors, race-inspired rear spoiler and leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio, cruise controls and OnStar. The Dale Earnhardt Signature Series options include black with Galaxy Silver metallic with RCR logos, a perimeter red racing stripe, Intimidator graphics on the decklid, 16" diamond-cut wheels, and Dale Earnhardt's signature and famous #3 racing graphics.
